  7. This is to announce MUSIC Kermit Release 4.2.  The sources have not been
  8. completely rewritten, nor have they been resequenced, but numerous
  9. fixes, extensions, and improvements have been inserted.  The changes
  10. applied include all updates formerly available in IKMKER.UPD plus a
  11. number of new ones.  As with Release 4.1, all MUSIC-specific files begin
  12. with IKM, and generic Kermit-370 files begin with IK0 (I K Zero).  The
  13. separate pieces are to be recombined into a single composite source for
  14. installation.  See the file IKMKER.INS for instructions.  Bug reports
  15. should be sent to Pierre Goyette <PIERRE@MCGILL1.BITNET>.  Release 4.2
  16. is also being issued in the companion TSO and CMS variants (see the
  17. separate announcements for details).  Anyone interested in helping to
  18. port Kermit-370 to still other operating systems should contact John
  19. Chandler <JCHBN@CUVMB.BITNET> or <JCHBN@CUVMB.CC.COLUMBIA.EDU>.

  22. IK0KER.ANN.  The following is a list of MUSIC-specific updates added
  23. since Release 4.1.

  25. 1) Correction of problem in SERIES1-type transfer I/O with large blocks.

  27. Incidentally, the generic update program GUPI has been updated, but the
  28. old version will still work.  You need not recreate it, but if you do,
  29. be sure to use all-new sources, or it will not assemble properly.

  56. Many thanks to the beta testers who have helped work out the bugs in the
  57. new release.  Note: versions 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 were never released, except
  58. for testing.  Version 4.2.3 represents an accumulation of two years of
  59. improvements.

  61. Most of the advances in the new release are simply duplications of the
  62. simultaneous generic changes in the other variants of Kermit-370, but
  63. some of the changes included system-specific code that required porting
  64. to MUSIC.  Two notable changes, however, involved porting of features
  65. that had already been available in other variants.

  67. - Kermit-MUSIC now tries to automatically detect the terminal controller
  68.   type.  Previously, it could not because MUSIC did not allow the needed
  69.   I/O operations.

  71. - Kermit-MUSIC now gives the date and time of each file in response to
  72.   the Kermit DIR subcommand, and the attribute packet for a download now
  73.   carries the correct time stamp.
